Vision, Mission, Values & Purpose

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion envisions a campus where belonging is foundational, inclusion is intentional, and every community member feels seen, valued, and connected. We strive to lead transformative change by nurturing a culture where diverse identities, experiences, and voices thrive in unity.

The Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion cultivates a campus culture rooted in belonging, intentional connection, and community-building. We build collaborative relationships, facilitate educational opportunities, and create space for reflection and dialogue - empowering students, staff, and faculty to contribute meaningfully to a vibrant and supportive university community.

Strategic Goals

1. Foster a Culture of Belonging and Inclusivity Across Campus

Purpose: To ensure every student, faculty, and staff member experiences connection, visibility, and respect within the Â鶹ӰԺ community.

Strategies to work toward goal:

  • Creating identity-affirming spaces and programs that support historically and systematically marginalized or underserved communities.

  • Embedding inclusive practices into university-wide recruitment, onboarding, curriculum and universal design, unit goals, and student leadership training.

  • Offering regular opportunities for dialogue, telling our stories and lived experiences, and relationship-building that center empathy and lived experience.

2. Equip the Campus Community to Navigate and Lead Through Sociocultural Change

Purpose: To prepare students, faculty, and staff to engage thoughtfully and compassionately with evolving cultural and social identities, global perspectives, and shifting social norms—both across Â鶹ӰԺ spaces and beyond.

Strategies to work toward goal:

  • Facilitating workshops and experiences that explore intersectionality, cultural humility, access and accessibility, generational differences, socioeconomic status, and inclusive leadership, for example.

  • Creating opportunities for intercultural dialogue, religious literacy and exploration, and global citizenship across disciplines, student life, and career experiences.

  • Offering responsive, research-informed programming that reflects current movements and social shifts—such as racial justice, gender equity, sexual orientation, neurodiversity, and international perspectives.

3. Strengthen Institutional Infrastructure for Sustainable Inclusion and Community Partnership

Purpose: To embed DEI efforts into university systems while deepening Â鶹ӰԺ’s ties to Â鶹ӰԺ’s diverse communities.

Strategies to work toward goal:

  • Developing assessment tools to measure campus climate and belonging over time.

  • Advising on inclusive hiring, retention, and support practices for faculty and staff.

  • Expanding reciprocal partnerships with cultural, civic, and advocacy organizations in the city and region.

We are here to:

  • Support the entire community’s sense of belonging.
  • Offer learning opportunities through programming, events, and workshops.
  • Create, shape, and implement policy that advances our university and office’s vision, mission, and values.
  • Expand and deepen perspectives about a range of identities and lived experiences.
  • Address any pervasive bias-related incidents and inequities that occur on our campus.
  • Celebrate, fully, the rich and diverse cultures of those who are a member of our community.
